Local Max meets personal growth
16. November 2005
Lately I have been reading Seth Godin’s blog and was rather taken by his account of Local Max as whilst it is focused upon the business world it also, in my view, exactly reflects the passage of our personal growth and evolution. I find it interesting how businesses and organisations experience similar growing pains and challenges to the one’s that we meet individually.

Local Max in this case being our comfort zone, the place we may have worked towards and finally arrived at. You may like things to be even better but why rock the boat, life is good, best not to be greedy or needy?
“Why rock the boat?” is the voice of our fears and resistance, the aspect of us that knows that in order to move on or grow we are going to have to take a journey deeper within and face our pain and resistance (Point C) in order to find the next level of comfort and joy (Big Max).
Of course in time Big Max becomes our Local Max and the cycle begins again but with each cycle we are better equipped for the next. Steve Pavlina explores a similar theme here in How To Get From A Seven To A Ten
