Carbon Neutral

I found this excellent site today that offers ways in which we can neutralise our carbon outputs by purchasing trees etc. They describe it like so…

The CarbonNeutral Company leads the world in helping businesses and individuals tackle their contribution to climate change. Our scope is from strategic consultancy and carbon management for our corporate and government clients, through to climate-related gifts available on the high street.

Underpinning this range is a common purpose: to make a positive impact on the environment at the same time as delivering benefit – whether that is commercial or personal.

The offer a range of calculators with which you can estimate your CO2 emissions and offset that through various forestation projects.

I find it inspiring that it is working with major companies such as DHL and Avis to find positive solutions. Of course much more needs to be done but this company taking positive steps.

We live carbon neutrally at home already but my company (http://www.jacksonssyf.com) is anything but and consumes huge amounts of petrochemical products whilst producing a great deal currently of unavoidable waste during the fairing and painting of Superyachts.

I am now looking more closely at ways offsetting that. Previously I had more or less resigned myself to the idea that, “Well its a polluting business and at least I have some influence over the levels of waste that others may not be so concerned about.” Superyachts exist in a whole world of financial affluence and technical excellence that is almost unimaginable but they are also hugely polluting. Carbon Neutral is now working with superyachts owners to offset their emissions.

What a good idea.
