Prepare For The Best

SEE UPDATE AT END

How do you want to live? In fear of the potentially endless apparent problems and setbacks that may hinder your life? Or buoyed by joy and the anticipation of a life well lived? I certainly prefer the latter.

However we live in a society that more readily focuses upon its fears and dangers than upon its hopes and dreams. Have you tried the news lately? Avian flu, terrorism, global warming, war, poverty etc. Fine, yes there may be all manner of horrors in this world BUT we can choose to focus upon solutions and positive outcomes inspired by the joy of success rather than motivated by the fear of failure. This approach generates inspired solutions and way less stress.

As someone who is offering advice to a potentially huge audience on the web I find that I am always taken to a new level of understanding whenever I write about a particular subject on this site. It goes with the territory that I always have more to learn and that is part of the fun. I am experiencing one of these learning cycles now which has manifested in the form of being owed a great deal of money by a shipyard client of my yacht painting business. I in turn owe a great deal of money to my subcontractors and suppliers etc.. Apparently this is because the shipyard is owed a great deal of money by it’s clients.

One long financial food train that seems to be stalled for reasons apparently beyond my influence or control thus far. Clearly this can be an opportunity for growth and insight; something here to be learned of the benign abundance of the Universe and/or my blind spots.

Worst case scenario? Well, shipyard goes bankrupt, I/we don’t get paid, severe financial hardships all round, I have to sell my house etc. That outcome does not feel good at all and I feel myself contracting at the thought of it, where’s the use in that scenario?

Best case is that the money is paid swiftly and everybody is happily relieved of their anxiety. However experience has taught me that I first need to come out of fear and anxiety in order to manifest an effective solution. This I can do fairly readily but is it as easy as sitting here enlightened by the dream of a happy ending and radiating “positive vibes” out into the ethers? Maybe, maybe not, some inspired and direct action on my part could be required, something has to shift. This scenario is certainly bringing my a heightened awareness to my feelings and the relative vibrational energy levels between fear, hope and joy.

I’ll keep you posted on the outcome in the days ahead.

UPDATE January 2007

Well it seems amazing that I wrote the above way back in November 2005 but finally the news is GOOD. The aforementioned shipyard client managed to re-structure and finance itself without going into bankruptcy and attempting to write off its debts. As a result all creditors are being paid which means my company and its creditors are being paid also. Very good news indeed!

Did I have to do anything more than continue to hold a vision for a positive outcome in order to achieve this happy ending? Probably not, I did send strong letters and have many meetings to discuss the situation etc. but largely it boiled down to trusting and supporting the positive intent and ability of this shipyards’ managing director. He is not a man who likes to accept defeat and whilst we might not always share the same ideas there was clear agreement that it was in the best interests of all parties to find a solution that kept the business and its suppliers afloat.

The managing director really did his job. He “managed” creditors such as I so that we kept working even when our debts were increasing and he “managed” venture capitalists in such a way that they believed in his vision and ability enough to re-finance his shipyard. This guy is a real “big picture” type he has big bold ideas but seems (to me) a bit vague on the details. He delegates the details to others who are better with details. Way to go…
