Ellen McArthur - Through The Window

8. February 2005

A great rush of euphoria and national pride has gripped the UK today with the return home of lone yachtswoman, 28 year old Ellen McArthur. She crossed the finish line off Ushant at 22:29:17 GMT (Monday, 7.2.05) to set a new solo, non-stop round the world record of 71 days, 14 hours, 18 minutes and 33 seconds. MacArthur has taken 1 day, 8 hours, 35 minutes, 49 seconds off the previous fastest 72 day, 22 hours, 54 minute solo time of Francis Joyon (Joyon finished his record attempt on 3.2.04). I was in the fortunate position of being able to see her pass from my house. The road nearby filled with onlookers as her yacht came into view, helicopters buzzed overhead, and for awhile our mundane daily concerns slipped out of mind. Yes! She did it! And somewhere inside us a light goes on; perhaps I could do it too?
I haven’t been following her journey much at all but today she warmed my heart and inspired many others by actually living and manifesting her dreams.

Isn’t that what we all want to do in our own unique way? Isn’t that what abundance is about, feeling full-filled by our life and achievements however great or seemingly small they may be?

  1. This remindes me of a book I just recently heard about. It looks like a good and inspirational read – N.O.W.: No Opportunity Wasted: Creating A List For Life
