Oneness, resistance and a supportive world.
5. November 2008
“Oneness” is hard to quantify or measure, its an intuitive felt sense. On a rational level it might be best explained by the model of the Holographic Universe which suggests that all of everything is within us and that we are also within all of everything.
Holograms
To make a hologram, the object to be photographed is first bathed in the light of a laser beam. Then a second laser beam is bounced off the reflected light of the first and the resulting interference pattern(the area where the two laser beams commingle) is captured on film. When the film is developed, it looks like a meaningless swirl of light and dark lines. But as soon as the developed film is illuminated by another laser beam, a three-dimensional image of the original object appears.
The three-dimensionality of such images is not the only remarkable characteristic of holograms. If a hologram of a rose is cut in half and then illuminated by a laser, each half will still be found to contain the entire image of the rose. Indeed, even if the halves are divided again, each snippet of film will always be found to contain a smaller but intact version of the original image. Unlike normal photographs, every part of a hologram contains all the information possessed by the whole.
The “whole in every part” nature of a hologram provides us with an entirely new way of understanding organization and order. For most of its history, Western science has laboured under the bias that the best way to understand a physical phenomenon, whether a frog or an atom, is to dissect it and study its respective parts. A hologram teaches us that some things in the universe may not lend themselves to this approach. If we try to take apart some thing constructed holographically, we will not get the pieces of which it is made, we will only get smaller wholes.
In practical terms as a human being living it the western world it is very easy, if not normal, to feel separate from each other and the workings of life.
We may feel misunderstood by our parents, children, partners, employers, employees and anything else you care to think of. Life serves up challenge after challenge and we feel thwarted, stressed and like escaping from the endless frustration of fighting against a life that apparently, ceaselessly, remorselessly resists bending to our wishes or giving us what we want. Life’s a bitch, you marry one, then you die… how sad that saying is.
Once we get a sense of Oneness however this all changes. Instead of feeling resistant to life we now feel connected to it, at one with it. We can recognise that our prior resistance to what is, was simply a manifestation of our disconnection from what is.
What the hell does that mean?
- Ok, lets say you’ve just lost your job unexpectedly. Immediately you feel, fearful for the future and perhaps angry or depressed about your situation. You feel life has dealt you a dirty, and you feel separate from life because of this apparent harshness.
However with the same event experienced under an awareness of Oneness you feel or respond a little differently.
- Initially you’ll may still feel shocked but as you also feel deeply connected to life you recognise that you have no other choice than to accept this situation and make the best of it. You feel “response able” because you hold an underlying felt sense that you have created this very set of circumstances exactly because it is what you need to experience. You stop separating from and blaming the harshness of life and instead get on with consciously living with whatever life delivers.
Life becomes your ally along your personal voyage of self discovery because now you are life and life is you. Life has become a co-creative journey of self discovery and personal development, not something to fight and resist.
The positive benefits of this manifest as an easier more joyous life experience because you are so much more conscious or aware of your thoughts and feelings and thus able to direct your energy creatively in the direction of the type of life you seek to live. Thoughts and feelings create, so choose useful ones.
How to experience oneness?
Well the very first step is recognising that you want to and I suggest that the next step is to spend much time alone and close to nature.
Practice allowing yourself to become calm, still and fully present in the moment and allow Oneness to become present and greet you.
Very simple, not necessarily very easy.
Enjoy
