Getting Out Of The Way - Letting Go.
7. February 2007
Creating the life of our dreams is about letting go and letting life; we dream and life fills in the details. This creative journey may be very different to the plans our limited ego based minds might have envisaged. Hence the saying “Be careful what you wish for because you might just get it”. For instance you wish for a new faster computer, accidentally spill your coffee on your old one and lose all the data that you hadn’t backed up. You do, however, get a new computer courtesy of your household insurance policy. Probably not your ideal scenario but you did get what you wished for. There are any number of ways in which something, anything, can manifest into your life. In learning to let go of any predefined idea of how this should happen you’ll also learn to trust the workings of life to ever greater degrees.
I’ve learnt this time and again in my life from things such as the experience of young heartache when a romance would end but after a spell of grieving an even finer girl would turn up. Or in business I’ve gone all out to win contracts and failed, only to have better deals replace them. It’s after a certain amount of this type of experience that you get the aha of so called “spiritual awakening”, it becomes clear to you that there is something more going on somehow and you begin visiting web sites such as this in an attempt to make more sense of it all.
The more I work with abundance the more I recognise that feelings are the most valuable guide. Simply what feels good and what feels not good along with what is most important to you right now. I have a whole variety of things I’d like to manifest but only a relative few that command my consistent attention. The most important being my desire to enjoy life and all my time, I truly, madly, deeply wish to enjoy every activity I engage in. I’d also like a fair few material things such as new camera equipment and furniture. Its all materialising, I can feel it already.
This takes me to a very intriguing thing I’ve noted, the moment of letting go. It’s that moment where we have been so focused on a desire or outcome but nothing seems to have worked and we finally surrender to the idea that, well, perhaps, it just isn’t meant to be. Then, as if by magic, what we wanted materialises! Voila! We finally got out of the way!
My first memory of this was when I’d gone off the Hawaii as a 21 year old pursuing my windsurfing dreams but it hadn’t gone quite as planned. The wind had blown only very lightly, it was incredibly expensive to live and I was near enough all out of money. Sitting quietly on a sun kissed beach in paradise one afternoon I was feeling rather dejected. It seemed I was going to have to cut my trip short and go home to the winter cold of England – oh well…
Next thing I hear is a woman I vaguely recognise saying “Hello, how are you?”. I explain a little. It turns out that she works nights as a nurse and needs someone to look after her seven year old daughter while she is out. She offers me free lodging in return for childminding evenings and nights! I get to stay in Hawaii and still have the days free to windsurf!
On a different level, this year, I was shopping for a birthday present for my wife. I’d been all over town but hadn’t found what I wanted and was heading back to my car having just resigned myself to the idea of getting something different. Da da! I glance across the street and “Oh yes what about in there?”, perfect gift found.
I cannot offer you the no quibble “Ultimate 10 Point Plan To Let Go & Let God” but I do suggest you watch for where you are clutching and where you are allowing in your life and grow with it.
Feel the flow…
