Starting the day with abundance.

3. July 2006

I find the start of the day to be crucial to the rest of my day. Typically I feel a bit slow and out of it when I first wake and prefer some time to myself to align into the waking world.

In the old days I might of thought “ho hum here we go again” and trudged about my day on auto pilot. It was not that I was generally particularly miserable or anything but rather that I had not become conscious of how much my habitual thought choices affected my feelings and consequently my experience of the passing of a day.

Nowadays though I am way more aware and thus empowered to make wiser, happier creative choices on waking and I do with happy consequences.

I watch the antics of my mind with curiosity as it begins automatically to start looking for the biggest problems that may lie ahead and in what order they need to be dealt with. Very uplifting that is! Not! However problems are problems, you can’t just ignore them or wish them away can you? No, not quite, but starting your day thinking about all the things that are not as you would wish is hardly helpful to your mood and general outlook.

So I kindly direct my thoughts away from said problems and towards what is right with the morning, my wife and children, our dog’s wagging tail, the trees and birds, our home, my health and well being, all that gratitude stuff FIRST. It works, take time to be grateful for all that is well with your world and focus upon what you want and dream of. If that seems a chore then ask yourself inwardly what you need in order bring yourself into alignment with your joy and passion.

Listen to your intuition and the feelings within you, learn to trust your instincts. Look always for solutions not problems. You can do this as a formal morning meditation practice or you can do it as you stumble around making the tea, you choose. All that matters is that you practice looking for what is right first and keep on practicing, make feeling good a habit.

From this hopeful optimistic outlook you can approach the challenges of your day in a very different way where they are not burdens but rather opportunities for creative solutions.

Start your day the abundant way! Oh doesn’t that sound so glib and cheesey…

All together now,

  • START YOUR DAY THE ABUNDANT WAY

Remember that when you wake up and have a laugh, tell that sensible old problem solving mind of yours to chill out.

Happiness is a choice not a test.
