Day 10 - Go Gratitude Masterkey

gratitude sign

I’ve now had my 10th email from GiveMeTheMasterKey. I’ve enjoyed them a lot, its been good to have a daily reminder to ponder aspects of gratitude.

Today’s message included some quoted text from the beautiful but mysterious web site The Wingmakers that I know well:

“Establishing a relationship with the universe through the outflow of Gratitude also attracts life experience that is trans formative – experience that is richly devoted to uncovering life’s deepest meaning and most formative purpose.”

I find this to be so true. When we interact with life in a curious and grateful manner we draw more life to us. We say YES and it feels good; we like good feelings.

The trouble comes when something enters our life experience that triggers a defensive reaction making us feel bad so we say/feel NO and attempt to push it away. Yes or no, good or bad, pull or push but what about ALLOW, what about a simple receptivity?

What happens if we just say YES to everything? Yes to the “good” and yes to the “bad”?

What if we choose to remain in gratitude regardless of the feelings evoked?

My experience is that I/we actually feel better, much better, for much or most of the time. In this state we can now use so called bad experiences to guide and help us rather than trying to push them away and avoid facing or feeling anything negative if at all possible. Rather than collapsing into despair over how harsh and aggravating life can be we now meet our challenges head on ready to use them for our growth and understanding as best as we can moment by moment.

Practising this over time actually leads to fewer stiff challenges anyway, because we then live ever more consciously and so respond and choose ever more wisely. Unlike the dark old days where we reacted subconsciously and instinctively to perceived threats to our safety and repeatedly argued for the harshness of our reality only to have that harshness reaffirmed by return.

Instead, now, when your buttons are pushed and you are feeling frustrated by life I highly recommend you take some quiet time for yourself to re-group and re-center with gratitude. Visualise the gratitude symbol over your heart and listen to the whispers of your soul guiding you telepathically. It is a practice very much like the serenity prayer:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as a pathway to peace;
Taking this troubled world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that life will make all things right
if I open fully to life;
That I may be happy in this life
and supremely happy in all life thereafter
Amen.

Lightly adapted from a prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr (Alcoholics Anonymous)

Choose to say yes and your journey will be easier, be grateful for it all but learn to choose ever more wisely according to your deepest inner truth.

This will lead you to an experience of living that is richly devoted to uncovering life’s deepest meaning and most formative purpose and with that you will be truly grateful.

Life is challenge, endless challenges, how dull would it be if we ceased to stretch ourselves, if we stopped exploring our unknown?

Say yes to life with gratitude.
